Parts for the machines

BOM list for the Rack and pinion version

Written by Rawcnc

This BOM includes selected parts that fit the Raw Creative 2.5 and work well together, making the build easier and reducing guesswork.

Some links are affiliate links, which means you support the project at no extra cost when using them.

You are free to source parts elsewhere, but these components are chosen to make the build as smooth as possible.

Hardware kits, plates and custom parts are also available from our website to save time during the build.

Before ordering parts

This BOM is updated regularly, but links, prices, specifications and availability may change. Always double-check dimensions, quantity and compatibility before ordering.

We cannot take responsibility for incorrect purchases, changed listings, unavailable products or supplier mistakes.

Metric only

All measurements in this BOM are in millimetres. Raw Creative 2.5 is designed around metric components, drawings and hardware.

Do not convert the machine to imperial measurements unless you fully understand how it affects the build. Mixing metric and imperial parts may cause alignment issues or parts that do not fit correctly.

If you are unsure about sourcing the correct metric hardware, you can buy our hardware kit with the required metric screws and selected hardware for the build.

Plates

Laser cut steel plates can be expensive in small quantities, so the plate list is divided by machine version. This way you only order the plates needed for your build.

You can buy the plates from us, or cut them yourself from 6 mm and 3 mm steel.

Currently available for the belt version only.

If you want maximum flexibility, a universal plate kit for different machine versions is available from our website.

Aluminium, racks, cables and guide rails

Use our calculator to find the correct lengths for your machine size. Enter your desired machine size, write down the required measurements, then return to this BOM list and use those measurements when ordering your components.

Square tube for X-axis

We recommend reinforcing the X-axis with an 80 x 40 x 2 mm steel tube. This can usually be sourced from a local hardware supplier or online.

  • 935 x 1000 mm machine: 730 mm tube
  • 1180 x 1000 / 1180 x 1500 mm machine: 970 mm tube
  • 1500 x 2000 mm machine: 1300 mm tube

For the larger size, you can use two shorter tubes and splice them, or use a 1000 mm tube with small gaps on the left and right side.

Reference products

Some products, such as screws, washers and nuts, may link to our Swedish website as reference items. These pages show what the product looks like and help you identify the correct type.

Please note that these items may not be sold individually from that page. They may instead be included in one of our hardware kits.

Part quantities

This BOM is based on a larger 2000 x 1500 mm machine to make sure the listed parts are sufficient for most builds. If you build a smaller machine, you may have some parts left over.

For exact quantities, study the build videos and adjust the list according to your own machine size.

We choose hexagon screw due to its color and low price (torx screw or any screw with a low head is used in tight spaces and are marked “Torx”)

Products in the BOM list marked with * are included in our hardware kit.

Optional products

These items are not necessarily included in the BOM list, but they are useful to have during the build.

Tools and assembly

  • Drill machine
  • Drill bits for metal
  • Countersink bit
  • M5, M6 and M8 taps
  • Tap handle
  • Measuring tape
  • Caliper
  • Square / engineer’s square
  • Clamps
  • Marker pen
  • Small file or deburring tool
  • Basic hand tools
  • Metric Allen key set
  • Metric spanner / wrench set
  • Screwdrivers
  • Spirit level or straight edge

Electrical and wiring

  • Crimp terminals and crimping tool
  • Cable spiral / cable wrap
  • Heat shrink tubing
  • Soldering iron and solder
  • Wire stripper
  • Side cutters
  • Multimeter
  • Threadlocker

Optional but useful

  • Step drill bit
  • Cable labels
  • Ferrules for electrical wiring
  • Ferrule crimping tool
  • Zip ties
  • Vacuum cleaner or dust extraction during assembly
  • Small bench vise
  • Workbench or flat assembly table

Threading Taps for aluminium profiles 6mm

It is important that you buy good quality taps. Cheap taps will snap off immediately and if the tap gets stuck in the hole, it cannot be removed.
Note that some profiles have 4mm holes instead of 5mm. If you have such a profile. drill the holes to 5mm and thread with 6mm tap as the picture above.

Other things that may be needed are

  • A 1.5 spindle with a frequency converter and 65mm spindle clamp. Alternatively, you can mount on a regular compact router from Makita, Bosch or Dewalt. However, edge trimmers and 1.5kw spindles have a 65mm shaft, so you need a spindle clamp 65mm diameter.
  • Consumption table. Cut your own consumable table by following our guides.
  • Dust shoe These effectively remove dust and shavings so you don’t inhale it.

If you have the products mentioned above, you are ready to build a Raw Creative machine.
